Secondly: the files in the compressed uz format are not really intended for casual download, but if you do decide to download them, you will need to use the following method to decompress them before you can do anything with them.
../Unreal/System UCC.exe DECOMPRESS filename.ext.uz
The above commandline will extract the decompressed file to your ../Unreal/System/ folder It should be noted the many automated Cache Managers/Cleaners will NOT Work with raw .uz files. Maps\ Use the ext .unr Music\ Use the ext .umx Sounds\ Use the ext .uax System\ Use the ext .u Textures\ Use the ext .utx </pre>
UZ Files Description
UZ Files are compressed and are normally stored on a re-direct server, as they are compressed they take less time to download which is better for both players and the game server, when the files are recieved they are decompressed and treated exactly the same as if the file was downloaded directly from the game server.
The decompressed files are stored in the /Cache/ Folder as a 32 character hexadecimal filename with the ext of .uxx for example "7C878F4011D599CAA000D0B33D7651CC.uxx" also in the /Cache/ Folder is a text file called "cache.ini" this file stores the file information - this is where Unreal v227 differs from earlier versions, although the file cache.ini exists, the information was incomplete, which made it virtually impossible to manage the cache'd files, by moving them to the correct folders with their correct filenames. With U1 v227 you can use Unreal Cache Manager To move the contents of your ../Unreal /Cache/ .... Folder to their correct locations.
Run "Unreal.exe" Press the [ESC] Key for the Main Menu Look at the Top Left of your Unreal Screen there it will show Your Unreal ie. "Version 225" If the Version you have displayed is before Version 227 You should really consider upgrading by downloading the latest
Unreal1 Update patch v227d All maps and mods you used on previous versions will still work, plus there are many enhancements which make the upgrade more than worthwhile, improved support for faster Graphics Cards.
